Profile
Alan Peart
I'm a 35-year-old web developer and IT consultant, born in Ireland but currently living in Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. After 10 years working in the world of corporate IT as both a salaried employee and a contractor, I have started a family, moved to the country, and am making my living as a web developer!
Besides the essential tools of HTML, CSS and Javascript I make extensive use of Drupal, a fantastically flexible and scary open-source Content Management System. Expertise in Drupal is a sought-after niche of web programming skill, and I was lucky enough to be pointed in that direction a few years ago by a friend, who probably had no idea he was securing my future ability to take country walks in the afternoon and work until 3am.
I work both on my own and as part of the Creative Coop, a group of freelance creative folk run by Marc De'Ath, who collaborate on projects and pass work to each other. This means I'm part of a network of people who have many different and complementary skills. I come primarily from a coding background, so working closely with graphic designers and visually creative people has been essential for my progress as a web designer.
You can have a look at my portfolio so far here.
I have collected quite a few skills as a software engineer over the years, with the main focus on C#, VB.NET and ASP.NET. I have worked as a SQL Server DBA and I have also dabbled in some lovely scripting languages like Perl and Python. My most recent specialty has been large-scale data migration (ETL), with a particular focus on data enrichment and data cleanse. So, if you've arrived at this site looking for an IT contractor, feel free to request a copy of my CV!
If you've arrived here looking for my personal site, I'm afraid it is no more. Tyler went away. Tyler's gone. I'll be finding another online home for my writing at some point. However, you can still get in touch with me through the contact form, and if it's my photography you wanted to see, it's still here!
